In October 2012, violence perpetrated by Rakhine mobs and local police against Rohingyas in western Myanmar forcibly displaced over 120,000 people from the physical sites of their ancestral homes and the temporal rhythms of their everyday lives. Confronting the uncertainty of either confinement in newly-constructed ghettos or fleeing the country by boat into the Bay of Bengal and beyond, displaced Rohingyas negotiate their survival during the indeterminable transition between home and away.
